Why Do I Do What I Do

Several years ago, I was like most people. I went to the store for my food every week. I was oblivious to how we actually got our food to the store. When I moved out to a rural area, I went to Tractor Supply just to see what they carried. I had never been into the store in my life, it was relatively new to our area. I was curious to know what they sold. So me and my daughter went down one day to see what they had.

We decided we needed a new toy for the 2 dogs that we had at the time, but when we went inside, they had baby chickens! I decided on the spot that we needed to get some. So we bought 8 chickens. Kira saw they had ducks also and we were told that you could not buy just one so we went home with 8 chickens and 2 ducks. That is where our journey started.

I didn’t know anything about how to care for chickens so we started looking online for information. We found they had to be kept warm until they got their feathers. So we had 8 chickens and 2 ducks in a cage meant for guinea pigs with a heater blowing on them to keep them warm. It’s really a wonder that they all survived.

Aarron made a cage for them to go outside once they had their feathers and that’s where it all started. We now have about 20 chickens, 2 pigs, 10 goats, 2 cows, dogs, and cats. I have learned so much over the years and continue to learn more every day. I love this lifestyle and wouldn’t change anything for the world now.

Have a great day!
