A pig’s pregnancy runs about 114 days. We believe our pigs mated the beginning of the month, so that would put her due around the middle of January. I am hoping this is correct because we will need to try to grow one up pretty quick for the freezer.

We are in the process of researching all that we may need to have on hand for the day the piglets come. This will be our first time birthing pigs so it should be an adventure to say the least. I just hope that since this is our first time we won’t run into problems, but of course with our luck, we probably will. I am hoping to have someone nearby that I can call on in the even things go south.

So for the time being, we are making sure that she has all she needs as far as nutrition goes. We will be building another pen for pappa to go into so that he doesn’t bother momma and the babies when the time comes. And now we wait! 

January and February will be very busy around here this year with all the birthing so if I go missing for a few days, ya’ll know why. But I have to say that I am so looking forward to it!
