I know it’s still summer time, but it is never to soon to make sure your home is ready for the coming winter. We usually start around now to make sure that everything is ready to go before winter really starts coming in. Of course some of this is common sense that will help with electric costs in the summer time too.
The first thing you will want to look at is your doors. Do you see sunlight coming in under or around the door like this one? That will need to be fixed to keep the cool or the heat in. We will take and replace the rubber that runs around the door and that should fix this up right nice. In the winter, it’s places like this that you will get your drafts. It lets the hot air out too making your heater have to work that much harder to keep your house warm. So this is the first thing on our to do list for winter this year.
The next thing you will want to do is check for drafts around your windows. This is also an easy fix if you feel any air coming out from around the window. Aarron will usually go around each of the windows every year with caulk to seal it all up nice and keeps the drafts away.
The other thing to think about is the window covering itself. A heavy one like this will also help to keep the warmth in the house.
Finally, one thing that maybe most important and I completely forgot about until now, is to make sure all your outside pipes are wrapped with the foam stuff (I know, I don’t know the technical terms or what these things are actually called.) to keep them from freezing. This will save you money in the long run because you won’t have to replace pipes in the middle of winter because one bursts after freezing.
What are some ways that you make sure your house is ready for winter? Leave me a comment below and let me know!
Have a great day!
